Artist Spotlight: Luna Ambient
Feb 20, 2026 · Vukaya Team
Luna Ambient is the project of Elena Torres, a sound designer from Vancouver who's been creating ambient soundscapes for over a decade. Her sleep series on Vukaya has become one of the platform's most-played collections, with listeners averaging 45 minutes per session.
From Film Sound to Sleep Sound
Elena spent eight years doing sound design for indie films before she burned out. 'I was layering sounds to create tension, fear, anxiety, that's what film needs. I wanted to use the same skills to create the opposite.'
She started recording nature sounds around British Columbia, rain on cedar forests, waves on Tofino beaches, wind through mountain passes, and layering them with synthesized drones tuned to specific frequencies. 'I think of each piece as an environment you can inhabit. It's not music you listen to. It's a space you enter.'
Her Process
Each Luna Ambient piece starts with a field recording. Elena uses binaural microphones (a dummy head with mics in the ear canals) to capture spatial audio that sounds three-dimensional on headphones. She then layers synthesized pads underneath, usually tuned to delta or theta frequencies.
'The field recording is the texture, and the synth is the architecture. The texture keeps your mind from wandering into anxious thoughts because there's always something subtle to notice, a distant bird, a shift in the rain. The synth underneath guides your brainwaves down without you realizing it.'
Why Vukaya
Elena discovered Vukaya through the artist program announcement. 'What sold me was SonicSync. My recordings are designed to be layered, that's literally how I build them. Most platforms flatten everything into a single stream. Vukaya lets listeners add my soundscapes as a layer on top of their own music. That's exactly how I intended them to be used.'
She earns through Vukaya's 70% revenue share model, with monthly payouts based on play share. 'It's the most transparent platform I've been on. I can see exactly how many minutes people listened, which pieces perform best, and what my earnings are in real time.'
What's Next
Elena is currently working on a 7-day sleep program for Vukaya, a structured series where each night builds on the last, gradually training your brain to fall asleep faster. 'Night one is about letting go. Night seven is about trusting that you can.' Look for it in the app next month.
